My Peace

Isaiah 9:6 - For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

John 14:2 - "In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?"

John 14:27 - "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid."

II Corinthians 4:7 - But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us.

Dear God, thank You for the peace, the perfect peace, You have in store for me each day. And in saying that, thank You for starting my new year tomorrow with Your peace. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

One of a Kind

John 15:4 - "Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me."

II Corinthians 5:17 - Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.

Ephesians 2:10 - For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

I John 4:7-8 - Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.

I John 4:7 (ICB) - Dear friends, we should love each other, because love comes from God. The person who loves has become God's child and knows God.

Dear God, help me to always stay on my path so I can become the person You created me to be, and help me to never let anyone try to change my path and deter me from being who You created me to be! Not everyone is supposed to be on the same path or the same journey, though their paths may indeed cross. If everyone was supposed to be the same, the world would be so dull and boring. It's like with the film, The Giver, where they stripped away color and emotion because they had decided that humans basically abused them and should all be the same. Yes, humans do abuse color and emotion, but to make everyone and everything the same? That film was good at teaching the importance of differences. And on that note, God, I want to ask that if You do not mind, I would love very much if Tom would forgive me knowing now that I am ready to forgive him when he is ready. And on another note, please, God, open the hearts of the people who keep protesting about black lives. Please open their hearts and their minds. They are being the racists of today and they are a mean bunch of hypocritical people at that. They read racism into everything if it doesn't agree with their mindset, and they are hurting their cause. Please, God, also protect the police officers. One of my former friends was a police officer and if not for him, who knows what would have happened after my car accident. He was off duty that night, but he still came to help me. Also, God, protect the innocent. We have lost special needs individuals at the hands of untrained police officers, unarmed, innocent of any crime. Police need to go back to what it was before-shoot to disarm, but don't shoot to kill. But considering how things are now, is it really smart to let a bunch of untrained citizens have guns as well? God, thank You for Your love and for adopting me. Keep us all safe. Thank You. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

Tiny Steps of Trust

Psalm 40:4 - Blessed is the man who makes the Lord his trust, who does not turn to the proud, to those who go astray after a lie!

Psalm 56:3-4 - When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can flesh do to me?

Psalm 62:8 - Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us. Selah

Isaiah 26:3-4 - You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock.

Dear God, help me as I take my tiny steps of trust in You. Thank You. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

Your Refuge and Strength

Psalm 46:1-3 - To the Choirmaster. Of the Sons of Korah. According to Alamoth. A Song.
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble at its swelling. Selah

Psalm 89:15-16 - Blessed are the people who know the festal shout, who walk, O Lord, in the light of your face, who exult in your name all the day and in your righteousness are exalted.

Dear God, in the midst of what the media portrays as a mean world, help me to not forget that You are there to comfort me and to shield me. Thank Ypu for being my refuge and strength. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

While You Wait

Psalm 36:9 - For with you is the fountain of life; in your light do we see light.

Isaiah 64:4 - From of old no one has heard or perceived by the ear, no eye has seen a God besides you, who acts for those who wait for him.

Isaiah 64:4 (NLT) - Since the world began, no ear has heard, and no eye has seen a God like you, who works for those who wait for him!

John 15:5 - "I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing."

Dear God, help me to never get so busy that I forget to spend time with You so that I can focus on the most important things that need to get done. Thank You. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

It Really Is Unconditional

Deuteronomy 33:27 - The eternal God is your dwelling place, and underneath are the everlasting arms. And he thrust out the enemy before you and said, Destroy.

Psalm 13:5 - But I have trusted in your steadfast love; my heart shall rejoice in your salvation.

I John 4:15-18 - Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. By this is love perfected with us, so that we may have confidence for the day of judgment, because as he is so also are we in this world. There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.

Dear God, thank You for love so perfect, love that is unconditional no matter what I do or what I feel. Thank You. Now if only those who claim to be Your children could really evidence that kind of love for each other and for others as well. Thank You. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

I Became Poor

Luke 2:13-14 - And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!"

II Corinthians 4:6 - For God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

II Corinthians 8:9 - For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might become rich.

Philippians 2:5-7 - Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the for, of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.

Dear God, thank You for sending Your Son to earth as a baby who would grow up in poverty, not because He had to so much as He wanted to, so that I could become rich through Your grace and Your love. Now that IS glorious! In Jesus' Name, Amen!

Celebrate the Gift

Psalm 90:2 - Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.

Colossians 1:27 - To them God chose to make known how great among the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

Colossians 3:15 - And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.

Dear God, words cannot express how thankful I am for the gift of Your Son coming to earth as a tiny little cute baby boy who would then grow to be a man that would face injustices and pain and then die on a cross so that I can come to You with love and adoration and experience Your peace and forgiveness and joy in exchange. How great a gift indeed! Thank You for that present. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

Both God and Man

Psalm 95:6-9 - Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the Lord, our Maker! For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts, as at Meribah, as on the day at Massah in the wilderness, when your fathers put me to the test and put me to the proof, though they had seen my work.

Romans 8:32 - He who did not spare his own Son but who gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?

I Timothy 6:13-16 - I charge you in the presence of God, who gives life to all things, and of Christ Jesus, who is in his testimony before Pontius Pilate made the good confession, to keep the commandment unstained and free from reproach until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, which he will display at the proper time–he who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone has immortality, who dwells in unapproachable light, whom no one has ever seen or can see. To him be honor and eternal dominion. Amen.

II Peter 1:19 - For whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that he is blind, having forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins.

Dear God, thank You for sending Jesus, Your Son, to be both God and Man, holy and unblemished yet also capable of suffering so He could empathize with me and with what I would go through. I trust that. You will indeed provide everything my family and I need. Thank You. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

Do as the Wise Men Did

Matthew 2:9-11 - After listening to the king, they went on their way. And behold, the star that they had seen when it rose went before them until it came to rest over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy. And going into the house they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh.

Luke 1:35 - And the angel answered her, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy–the Son of God."

Luke 1:76-79 - "And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High; for you will go before the Lord to prepare his ways, to give knowledge of salvation to his people in the forgiveness of their sins, because of the tender mercy of our God, whereby the sunrise shall visit us from on high to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace."

John 1:14 - And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Dear God, I am ready to follow the Star. Help me stay focused on it. Praise be to the God Almighty in Heaven above and to His Son who died upon the cross for my sins. Thank You. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

Traveling

Psalm 63:2 - So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary, be holding your power and glory.

John 11:40 - Jesus said to her, "Did I not tell you that if you believed you would see the glory of God?"

II Corinthians 5:6-7 - So we are always of good courage. We know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, for we walk by faith, not by sight.

Dear God, help me to embrace my weaknesses so that when Your power and Your glory shine through them, I will have more reasons to thank You and to trust You. And don't let me miss the miracles You have in store for me along the path You have for me each day. Thank You. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

I Did It for You

Psalm 92:1-5 - A Psalm. A Song for the Sabbath. It is good to give thanks to the Lord, to song praises to your name, O Most High; to declare your steadfast love in the morning, and your faithfulness by night, to the music of the lute and the harp, to the melody of the lyre. For you, O Lord, have made me glad by your work; at the works of your hands I song for joy. How great are your works, O Lord! Your thoughts are very deep!

Luke 23:35-37 - And the people stood by, watching, but the rulers scoffed at him, saying, "He saved others; let him save himself, if he is the Christ of God, his Chosen One!" The soldiers also mocked him, coming up and offering him sour wine and saying, "If you are the King of the Jews, save yourself!"

John 2:11 - This, the first of his signs, Jesus did it at Cana in Galilee, and manifested his glory. And his disciples believed in him.

Dear God, You let Your Son die for me. Your glory shone through the cross. Your Son on the cross. For me. Oh, how I wish I could thank You enough, but there is simply enough thanks to be able to give You. The greatest thing anyone could ever do for me, and You did it. Thank You. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

Clearing the Clutter

Proverbs 16:3 - Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.

Matthew 6:33 - But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

Dear God, help me to clear the clutter from my mind so that I can just enjoy being in Your presence. Thank You. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

Eternal Glory

Isaiah 30:20-21 - And though the Lord give you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, yet your Teacher will not hide himself anymore, but your eyes shall see your Teacher. And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, "This is the way, walk in it," when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left.

II Corinthians 4:17-18 - For this slight momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.

Dear God, please show me what You have in store for me when I face ongoing problems. Help me remember to thank You for the lessons. Thank You. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

A Perfect Day to Trust

Psalm 150:6 - Let everything that has breath praise the Lord! Praise the Lord!

Matthew 5:3 - "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."

Matthew 5:3 (NLT) - God blesses those who are poor and realize their need for him, for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.

Matthew 5:6 - "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied."

II Corinthians 4:6 - For God, who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

Colossians 2:9-10 - For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, and you have been filled in him, who is the head of all rule and authority.

Dear God, thank You for Your peace and joy. Grow my trust in You! In Jesus' Name, Amen!

Listen to Me

Isaiah 50:4 - The Lord God has given me the tongue of those who are taught, that I may know how to sustain with a word him who is weary. Morning by morning he awakens; he awakes my ear to hear as those who are taught.

Isaiah 60:2 - For behold, darkness shall cover the earth, and thick darkness the peoples; but the Lord will arise upon you, and his glory will be seen upon you.

Revelation 2:4 - "But I have this against you, that you have abandoned the love you had at first."

Dear God, help me to always put You first. And help me to remember that when I forget to do so, my day might not be as good as it could have been had I started it with You. Thank You for the joy, the peace, the life, and the love You have for me each day. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

Grab Hold of Hope!

Romans 8:18-25 - For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God. For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of him who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to decay and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now. And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sins, the redemption of our bodies. For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.

Romans 15:13 - May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.

Hebrews 6:17-20 - So when God desired to show more convincingly to the heirs of the promise the unchangeable character of his purpose, he guaranteed it with an oath, so that by two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fats tot he hope set before us. We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain, where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest after the order of Melchizedek.

Dear God, help me to remember that the troubles of this life are temporary and pale in comparison to the hope, the promise, of heaven that You have given me because of Your adoption of me as a daughter. I may not always have an easy time of doing that on my own. Heaven surely will be wonderful as compared to this present life, but I do want to experience the blessings of this life as well. Thank You. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

I Never Change

Proverbs 3:6 - In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.

Ecclesiastes 1:2 - Vanity of vanities, says the Preacher, vanity of vanities! All is vanity.

Hebrews 13:8 - Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

Dear God, thank You for the beautiful music of Your peace. Thank You for NEVER changing. Thank You for holding my hand and leading me down the path You have chosen for me each day. Thank You. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

Time to Be Holy

Psalm 27:4 - One thing have I asked of the Lord, that I will seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in his temple.

I Corinthians 6:19-20 - Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.

Ephesians 3:20-21 - Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

II Thessalonians 1:9-10 - They will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his might, when he comes on that day to be glorified in his saints, and to be marveled at among all who have believed, because our testimony to you was believed.

Dear God, thank You for developing me into exactly who and how You want me to be. If you can use an autistic like me, then You can use anyone. No one is unable to be used by You. Thank You. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

The Tip of the Iceberg

Job 42:1-3 - Then Job answered the Lord and said: "I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted. 'Who is this that hides counsel without knowledge?' Therefore I have uttered what I did not understand, things too wonderful for me, which I did not know."

Romans 8:28 - And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.

II Corinthians 5:6-7 - So we are always of good courage. We know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, for we walk by faith, not by sight.

I Peter 5:6-7 - Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.

Dear God, help me to always remember to walk by faith and not by sight. Help me to rest secure that You are working all things together for my good. Thank You. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

Faith Is Knowing

Genesis 21:1-7 - The Lord visited Sarah as he had said, and the Lord did to Sarah as he had promised. And Sarah conceived and bore Abraham a son in his old age at the time of which God had spoken to him. Abraham called the name of his son Isaac. And Abraham circumcised his son Isaac when he was eight days old, as God had commanded him. Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him. And Sarah said, "God has made laughter for me; everyone who hears will laugh over me." And she said, "Who would have said to Abraham that Sarah would nurse children? Yet I have borne him a son in his old age."

Psalm 36:9 - For with you is the fountain of life; in your light do we see light.

Hebrews 11:1 - Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.

Dear God, if the things I am hoping for are as real as the things I can already see, then I have faith in You to bring resolution and reconciliation between myself and Tom. I have always believed that. And one of the first steps toward that is about to happen. Hopes and dreams. Hope and dream is that I can find a church that truly accepts autistic adults, to find a safe job that uses my abilities, that my family can get the hearing aids I need, that my family can go to Disney World before Jesus would return (I know that seems small potato, but it is my lifelong hope and dream and we are finally saving toward it). Thank You for allowing me to have hopes and dreams. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

Safe and Secure

Psalm 139:9-10 - If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me.

Isaiah 41:8-10 - But you, Israel, my servant, Jacob, whom I have chosen, the offspring of Abraham, my friend; you whom I took from the ends of the earth, and called from its farthest corners, saying to you, "You are my servant, I have chosen you and not cast you off"; fear not, for it am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

James 1:2-3 - Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness.

Dear God, don't let go! Not ever! I don't like the troubles of this world, but if I need to go through them to better trust You, then so be it. Just don't let go. Thank You. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

Out on a Limb

Psalm 9:10 - And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O Lord, have nor forsaken those who seek you.

Psalm 23:4 - Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

John 12:26 - "If anyone serves me, he must follow me; and where I am, there will my servant be also. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him."

Dear God, help me to never be afraid to step out of my comfort zone. No matter what I may face. Thank You for being with me when I do step out on a limb. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

Be Glad You Are Needy

Philippians 4:19 - And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

Colossians 2:1-3 - For I want you to know how great a struggle I have for you and for those at Laodicea and for all who have not seen me face to face, that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, to reach all the riches of full assurance of understand in and the knowledge of God's mystery, which is Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

Dear God, thank You that Ypu created me to need You. I would rather be filled with Your riches than all the things of this world. Thank You. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

Every Detail

Matthew 10:29-31 - "Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the found apart from your Father. But even the hairs on your head are all numbered. Fear not, therefore, you are of more value than many sparrows."

II Corinthians 4:17-18 - For this slight momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.

Hebrews 11:27 - By faith he [Moses] left Egypt! not being afraid of the anger of the king, for he endured as seeing him who is invisible.

Dear God, help me to remember that You are always there and always care even when I am in the middle of a troubling and exhausting day. Thank You for caring about me, even down to how many hairs I have on my head. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

What I Want Most

Deuteronomy 6:5 - You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with your soul and with all your might.

Psalm 16:11 - You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

Colossians 3:23 - Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.

Dear God, awaken my soul to Your daily presence where I can relish in Your joy and give You the glory! Maybe the reason so many young people like me abandon the church is because it has become too stiff. Too routine. Too pragmatic. Too rules driven. You must do this. You must do that. If you have autism, you must become normal. If you do not fit into our little box, then you simply do not belong. Church awaken! You're driving us out! We want to worship. We want to give back to God, but you have become too legalistic for us! Let us hear some TobyMac or Newsboys every now and then. Let us help create the worship setting. You don't need an orchestra to worship. Just a simple guitar will do. And if you don't assimilate the special needs, well, stop. Thank You, God, that I can worship You whenever and however I want and that I am not bound by any particular rules for how I do it or when I do it or where I do it or how I look when I do it. You accept my worship even when I am in pajamas. Thank You. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

A Prayer I Love to Answer

Genesis 28:11-16 - And he came to a certain place and stayed there that night, because the sun had set. Taking one of the stones of the place, he put it under his head and lay down in that place to sleep. And he dreamed, and behold, there was a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven. And behold, the angels of God were ascending and descending on it! And behold, the Lord stood above it and said, "I am the Lord, the God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac. The land on which you lie I will give to you and to your offspring. Your offspring shall be like the dust of the earth, and you shall spread abroad to the west and to the east and to the north and to the south, and in you and your offspring shall all the families of the earth be blessed. Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land. For I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you." Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, "Surely the Lord is in this place, and I did not know it."

Psalm 31:20 - In the cover of your presence you died them from the plots of men; you store them in your shelter from the strife of tongues.

Dear God, I want to always remember that You are everywhere that I go. That You are only a prayer away from me. Thank You. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

A Small Sacrifice

Psalm 116:7 - Return, O my soul, to your rest; for the Lord has dealt bountifully with you.

Isaiah 55:8-9 - For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Colossians 4:2 - Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving.

Dear God, as I spend time with You each day, teach me Your thoughts and Your ways. Surely, giving You even just a small amount of my time every day is really just a small sacrifice especially when compared with the large sacrifice You made through Your Son, Jesus. So giving You my time each day is the least I can do. Thank You. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

Your Hope and My Promise

I Samuel 17:46-47 - "This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you down and cut off your head. And I will give the dead bodies of the host of the Philistines this day to the birds of the air and to the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel, and that all this assembly may know that the Lord saves not with sword and spear. For the battle is the Lord's, and he will give you into our hand."

Ephesians 6:12 - For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the forces of evil in the heavenly places.

Philippians 2:9-11 - Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

I Peter 1:8-9 - Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory, obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

Dear God, I am wearing out in the midst of the spiritual battle. Please help me. Continue to grow my trust in You. Thank You for the joy You have given me even while I am in the battle. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

Prince of Peace

Psalm 25:4 - Make me to know your ways, O Lord; teach me your paths.

Isaiah 9:6 - For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

John 20:19-21 - On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being locked where the disciples were for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, "Peace be with you." When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you."

Dear God, help me to never leave the path of peace, Your peace, during life's journey. Peace during the hard times is a good thing. Thank You. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

Surviving the Storms

Jeremiah 31:2-3 - Thus says the Lord: "The people who survived the sword found grace in the wilderness; when Israel sought for rest, the Lord appeared to him from far away. I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you."

Lamentations 3:22-23, 25-26 - The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him. It is good that one should wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.

Dear God, thank You for Your eternal love. Continue to teach me how to be still in Your presence. Continue to grow my trust in You. Help things come to resolution with Tom. Help keep my family financially provided for. Help my doctors figure out how to best treat me and to not be afraid to try to get insurance to cover the treatment that is needed the most. Help me to continue showing You to my mom. Keep giving me courage to press on. The storms are raging. Help me get through them. Thank You. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

Heavenly Light

Psalm 32:8 - I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you.

Luke 10:41-42 - But the Lord answered her, "Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her."

Philippians 3:20-21 - But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.

Dear God, help me with any problems that come my way during any day. And help me to see that they will pale in comparison to my home in Heaven. Thank You. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

The Key

Isaiah 40:11 - He will tend his flock like a shepherd; he will gather the lambs in his arms; he will carry them in his bosom, and gently lead those that are with young.

Isaiah 58:11 - And The Lord will guide you continually and satisfy your desire in scorched places and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.

Isaiah 58:11 (ICB) - The Lord will always lead you. He will satisfy your needs in dry lands. He will give strength to your bones. You will be like a garden that has much water. You will be like a spring that never runs dry.

Dear God, thank You for Your peace that You share with me. I do need You, and I will be the first to acknowledge that. Thank You for being with me. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

Always and Perfectly

Psalm 107:21-22 - Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love, for his wondrous works to the children of men! And let them offer sacrifices of thanksgiving, and tell of his deeds in songs of joy!

Ephesians 3:14-19 - For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith-that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

I Peter 5:7 - ...casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.

Dear God, thank You for always loving me perfectly! Thank You for taking care of me. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

The Language of Heaven

Psalm 100:4-5 - Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name!

Acts 9:18-19 - And immediately something like scales fell from his eyes, and he regained his sight. Then he rose and was baptized; and taking food, he was strengthened.

Colossians 3:15 - And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.

Revelation 19:3-6 - Once more they cried out, "Hallelujah! The smoke from her goes up forever and ever." And the twenty-four elders and the four living creatures fell down and worshiped God who was seated on the throne, saying, "Amen. Hallelujah!" And from the throne came a voice saying, "Praise our God, all you his servants, you who fear him, small and great." Then I heard what seemed to be the voice of a great multitude, like the roar of many waters and like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, crying out, "Hallelujah! For the Lord our God the Almighty reigns."

Dear God, help me to stay focused on You. Help me to just relax and let You take the wheel. How fitting this passage is that it fell on Thanksgiving Day this year. Thank You for allowing me to outlive the doctor prognosis placed on me at birth by 31 years now. I may not be the healthiest, but I am alive. Thank You for my precious furbabies, Katie and Molly. Undoubtedly, they would not have lived as long as they have if not for You placing them in my life. Not only do I have special needs, but so do they. Thank You for teaching me ACTIVE grace. Thank You for teaching me REAL compassion. Thank You for teaching me that generosity isn't just about giving money, but giving time and energy to truly just be there for others. And yes, thank You for Tom, who even though he has yet to ask for forgiveness or to forgive me, he will eventually because he is a wise person who does care. I know that in my heart. Thank You also for my mom, who understands me better than many others ever will. Help her find a new job soon so she will not worry about where the money for bills will come from. And thank You for Dee at the library who is allowing me to volunteer one day a week right now to help me get accustomed to doing something that will build endurance and might eventually lead to a job. She is a very wise woman who has found some of my many strengths. Thank You. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

Your Greatest Protection

Psalm 116:17 - I will offer to you the sacrifice of thanksgiving and call on the name of the Lord.

Psalm 118:24 - This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Dear God, thank You for Your protection over me. Help me to gain more optimism even when I face the darkest days. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

Never Stop Praying

Romans 15:13 - May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.

I Thessalonians 5:16-18 - Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.

James 4:8 - Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

Dear God, today I will simply say thank You. Nothing else needs to be said because You already know my heart and my mind. So thank You. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

Flipping the Switch

Psalm 89:15-16 - Blessed are the people who know the festal shout, who walk, O Lord, in the light of your face, who exult in your name all the day and in your righteousness are exalted.

Psalm 118:1 - Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever!

Ephesians 5:20 - ...giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,...

Dear God, thank You for being a constant presence  even in the midst of the troubles in my life. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

A Bouquet of Treasures

Psalm 4:7-8 - You have put more joy in my heart than they have when their grain and wine abound. In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.

Romans 8:38-39 - For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Dear God, thank You for all the many treasures, both great and small, that You have for me each day. Thank You for the beautiful bouquet. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

Windows of Heaven

Psalm 46:1 - God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

Habakkuk 3:17-18 - Though the fig tree should not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines, the produce of the olive fail and the fields yield no food, the flock be cut off form the fold and there be no herd in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord; I will take joy in the God of my salvation.

Dear God, thank You for the love You have for me and the joy You bring to me even in the midst of adversity. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

The Best Gifts Ever

Matthew 28:19-20 - "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age."

Luke 24:36 - As they were talking about these things, Jesus himself stood among them, and said to them, "Peace to you!"

Hebrews 13:15 - Through him then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name.

Dear God, the best gift I ever got was the gift of life. And for that I am very thankful. It is not an easy life, but it is a life I will not trade for all the gold in the world. I have been allowed to outlive the expectations that doctors had for me by 31 years now. Thank You God that Your gifts are even more perfect than that. I cannot wait until I have all those gifts. your gifts are good and perfect. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

Making the Grade

Psalm 62:8 - Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us. Selah

Ephesians 2:8-9 - For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

Ephesians 3:14-19 - For this reason I now my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith–that you, being rooted and grounded in live, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height an depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

Dear God, thank You God for not grading me. If I were being graded by You, I would be in a panic because there are undoubtedly times that I do not quite make the grade. Hearing things like "why doesn't she get it, she's so smart?!?" or "act your age!" are the world's way of grading people. Even autistics seem to get graded. "You're so smart, you can't be autistic!" or "you can use the bathroom by yourself, you must not have autism!" If only everyone would stop comparing themselves to others. God, thank You that at the end of my life, the only grade You will have for me is an A fpbecause I trust in You. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

No Matter Where I Lead

Exodus 15:13 - "You have led in your steadfast love the people whom you have redeemed; you have guided them by your strength to your holy abode."

Exodus 15:13 (ICB) - You keep your loving promise. You lead the people you have saved. With your strength you will guide them to your holy land.

Psalm 27:13-14 - I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living! Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!

Dear God, thank You for Your guidance along the journey through life. Please do not ever let go of me. Help me as I learn to trust You more and more each day along the way. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

Words of Grace

John 7:38 - "Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, 'Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.'"

Ephesians 5:18-21 - And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with all your heart, giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ.

Philippians 4:5-7 - Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Dear God, when Tom acted unreasonably toward me and became hateful and began believing lies and spreading lies, I thought there was no way I could ever forgive him for the pain he caused. He acted in a way that was up characteristic of him and not at all what I know he is able to be. But God, You are growing me. Tom may have had some unrealistic expectations of me and I of him. If he asks for forgiveness, he will have it. If he does decide to refriend me on Facebook as evidence of his forgiveness toward me, I will accept it. Because that is what a real friend does. That is what a real friend who has put God at the center of the relationship does. It is about grace. It is also about mercy and love and reverence. My heart is overflowing with You right now and I ask You to allow me to share it with Tom and with whoever else encounters me. Now does that mean that I will always be perfect in demonstrating You to others? No. And the crazy thing is that I have also learned that Jesus sometimes had a hot temper as well. And was brutally honest. Please open that door for reconciliation and restoration with Tom. Thank You, God. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

My Voice

Psalm 23:1-3 - A Psalm of David. The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

Isaiah 30:21 - And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, "Tis is the way, walk in it," when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left.

John 10:27 - "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me."

Romans 8:1-2 - There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death.

Dear God, help me stay focused on Your voice, and only Your voice, when it comes to knowing which way to go. Help me block out the voices that want to distract me. Help me block out the voices of Mikki and Mark who tried to change who I was created to be because I didn't fit into their little box of what they thought I should be. God, You created me to be different, not the same as everyone else. And if people cannot accept that, then they just are not worth listening to. Help me to trust that You will put the right people in my path who will cheer me on. Thank You. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

The Navigator

Psalm 73:23-24 - Nevertheless, I am continually with you; you hold my right hand. You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will receive me to glory.

Psalm 73:24 (NLT) - You guide me with your counsel, leading me to a glorious destiny.

I Corinthians 13:12 - For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I known in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.

Dear God, please lead me through the day ahead. No, it does not look straight. We have plans but they have thrown slightly askew as we now have to add an urgent care clinic to them due to an unexpected and still bleeding nose. It has been several hours since it began and though it has slowed significantly, it is still active. Please help us as we go through both the planned and unplanned parts of this day. Thank You for Your guidance and leadership. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

A Better Way

Psalm 89:15-16 - Blessed are the people who know the festal shout, who walk, O Lord, in the light of your face, who exult in your name all the day and in your righteousness are exalted.

John 16:33 - "I have said these things to you, that in me you will have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world."

Dear God, help me to learn to focus on You and depend on You when I have troubles. Help me be brave and strong in the knowledge that You will help me overcome them. Thank You. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

The Way I See You

Psalm 34:5 - Those who look to him are radiant, and their faces shall never be ashamed.

II Corinthians 3:18 - And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.

II Corinthians 5:21 - For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

Galatians 5:25 - If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit.

Dear God, thank You for seeing me just the way You created me. Oh, how I wish more autistics and parents of autistics could see the autistics the way You do - perfectly created for a purpose. Thank You. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

Enjoy the Mysteries

Nehemiah 8:10 - Then he said to them, "Go your way. Eat the fat and drink sweet wine and send portions to anyone who has nothing ready, for this day is holy to our Lord. And do not be grieved, for the joy of the Lord is your strength."

Isaiah 42:6-7 - "I am the Lord; I have called you in righteousness; I will take you by the hand and keep you; I will give you as a covenant for the people, a light for the nations, to open the eyes that are blind, to bring out the prisoners from the dungeon, form the prison those who sit in darkness."

Romans 15:13 - May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.

Romans 15:13 (CEV) - I pray that God, who gives hope, will bless you with complete happiness and peace because of your faith. And may the power of the Holy Spirit fill you with hope.

Colossians 1:27 - To them God chose to make known how great among the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

Dear God, I want to sit back and enjoy the mysteries of You. Thank You for Your joy and peace and love and grace and forgiveness. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

You Can't Earn My Blessings

Psalm 23:5 - You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.

Luke 11:9-10 - "And I will tell you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened."

John 3:16 - "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life."

Romans 8:32 - He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?

Dear God, thank You for the blessing You pour out upon me. Help me to not feel like having good days is a bad thing. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

Measuring Your Day

Deuteronomy 33:25 - "Your bars shall be iron and bronze, and as your days, so shall your strength be."

Psalm 105:4 - Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually!

Ephesians 1:15-23 - For this reason, because I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love toward all the saints, I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers, that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according tot he working of his great might that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.

Ephesians 1:18-19 (ICB) - I pray that you will know that the blessings God has promised his holy people are rich and glorious. And you will know that God's power is very great for us who believe.

Dear God, thank You for always being there for me helping me no matter what I go through during the day. Help me to always remember that You are there. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

Every Moment

Psalm 41:12 - But you have upheld me because of my integrity, and set me in your presence forever.

Psalm 41:12 (ICB) - You will let me be with you forever.

Psalm 89:15-16 - Blessed are the people who know the festal shout, who walk, O Lord, in the light of your face, who exult in your name all the day and in your righteousness are exalted.

I John 3:19-20 - By this we shall know that we are of the truth and reassure our heart before him; for whenever our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and he knows everything.

Jude 24-25 - Now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy, to the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen.

Dear God, help me stay focused on no matter what comes my way. Thank You for always being with me. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

I'll Be with You Then

Deuteronomy 31:6 - "Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you."

Luke 12:22-26 - And he said to his disciples, "Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat, nor about your body, what you will put on. For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing. Consider the ravens: they neither sow nor reap, they have neither storehouse nor barn, and yet God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds! And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? If then you are not able to do as small a thing as that, why are you anxious about the rest?"

II Corinthians 10:5 -6 - We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ, being ready to punish every disobedience, when your obedience is complete.

Dear God, help me to rest in You today and to not worry about tomorrow. Worrying will not add any time to my life, however long or short it may be. Thank You for letting me live to see another birthday. And if You see fit, please allow Tom and I to reconcile with each other. Thank You. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

In Hard Times

Psalm 102:26-27 - They will perish, but you will remain; they will all wear out like a garment. You will change them like a robe, and they will pass away, but you are the same, and your years have no end.

Isaiah 41:8-10 - But you, Israel, my servant, Jacob, whom I have chosen, the offspring of Abraham my friend; you whom I took from the ends of the earth, and called from its farthest corners, saying to you, "You are my servant, I have chosen you and not cast you off"; fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Acts 17:26-28 - And he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place, that they should seek God, in the hope that they might feel their way toward him and find him. Yet he is actually not far from each one of us, for "'In him we live and move and have being'; as even some of your own poets have said, "'For we are indeed his offspring.'"

Dear God, thank You for never changing. Help me focus on that the next time someone takes a turn for the worse and turns ugly against me. Be with me. Hold me close to You. Never let me stray. Remind me of Your promises when I do face the hard times. Thank You. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

Reflecting Me

Psalm 27:4 - One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire (meditate) in his temple.

Psalm 27:4 (ICB) - I ask only one thing form the Lord. This is what I want: Let me live in the Lord's house all my life. Let me see the Lord's beauty. Let me look around in his Temple.

Psalm 29:2 - Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness.

Dear God, how beautiful is Your creation, all of it, down to the littlest detail of the color of the hair on a baby's head and the veins on the rose petal. Please make me more and more beautiful each day. Help me to lye go of that which mars the beautiful piece You are making with me. Thank You. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

Open Letter to Gary Palmer

I did not vote for you because I am tired of the republican rhetoric of repeal the Affirdable Care Act, aka Obamacare. Why? Because I was one of the fighters to get something done to end the abuses of insurance companies. I saw problems as early as 2005 while Bush was still president, and wrote countless letters to him about the problems we were having with BCBS of Alabama. And he kept promising things would change, but they never did. Not until President. Obama came along and took the republican plan and ran with it. But listen up, Mr. Palmer. Just because I did not vote you, I am still your constituent. You are still supposed to represent me in D.C. And here is what I need from you if you are going to do that job well: I need you to strengthen the ACA. You may make it better, but you may not repeal it. If you repeal it, the insurance companies will go right back to where we started before the ACA came along to fix the problems. I am sure to get dropped at my next illness, and with an immune deficiency, I have a lot. If I get dropped, I will be lucky to survive the six month wait until the state high risk pool will take me, but tell me something, why on earth do you want to force me into a position of having to go on tax payer funded medical care? As long as I have private insurance, I am responsible for myself. No one else is. Not you, not Joe Blow down the street. Me. So, listen, the ACA, is actually a good thing. Second, you work hard to get the veterans what they need: jobs, VA or private care, COLA, etc. My mom sacrificed her time to serve this country. And I am proud of her. But I am sick of the stand offs in D.C. Because of those stand offs, my mom is back on the job market and she is having struggles. Third, you fight hard to make sure the disabled do not lose their benefits and fight to get the ABLE Act passed. The main hold up for me being to work even part-time now is the fact that I need hearing aids. And I have exhausted all my resources trying to get them so far. But because I am disabled, I need the SSI benefits to help cover expenses that insurance does not cover. Hearing aids cost $3000 and I am only allowed $2000. Per year. The ABLE Act will allow me to save for those hearing aids without penalty. Look, I did not ask to be disabled. But once we knew what was going on with me, I had some smart people from a church who knew where I needed to go to get help. And even though that church abused me when they learned if have autism, the few smart people there that referred me to the right places for help did a great job. Wisdom was taking their advice and seeking the help. Fourth, do not cut SNAP anymore. Really? As long as elderly, disabled, and veterans along with active duty military families and people who do work need it, do not cut it anymore. Fifth, and last of all, raise the minimum wage. When I looked up what a person needs to make in Shelby County to not be in poverty, the results were for a family of two to not be in poverty, one worker needs to make $14 an hour. Minimum. Minimum wage was established to be a living wage. Look it up. But when you raise the wage, close the loophole allowing employers to get away with paying disabled people as little as 22 cents an hour! What on earth? So there you have it, Mr. Palmer. Sincerely, Susan Spann

God, I Want to Trust You, But I Am Frustrated

Well, God. I just do not know what to believe any more. The least of these in this country are now screwed. Republicans want to repeal the ACA, screw the disabled by taking away their benefits, screw the veterans by taking away their benefits, and well, poor Jesus has been kicked to the curb with no food, no water, and no clothes. I am ashamed. And I am weary. Prove to me I can still trust You. Make sure that my family does not lose my insurance or any of the benefits we need to help my family not end up homeless or me dead. I am sorry God. My trust wavers right now.

Election Night Prayer

Dear God, as You already know, the least of these are suffering tremendously because of the hatred that certain people have for the president. Although I hope for Groffith and Lester, I just do not think Christians have awakened to their foolish arrogance yet. Today, if Jesus were a resident of Alabama, He would be called a lazy moocher just because He has a disability that keeps Him from working and needs help from SNAP, SSI, and Medicaid. As appalling as that may sound, it would be the truth. Also, He would be abused by most churches. It saddens me that the reality is that Jesus is apparently not welcome in Alabama nor in the United States. Well, God, I want to change that. Welcome to my house Jesus. I do not have a lot, but what I have is for You to share with me. God, You know my heart. And. You know my needs. I am scared, but I am trusting You. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

Choices, Choices

Psalm 37:4 - Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.

John 8:29 - "And he who sent me is with me. He has not left me alone, for I always do the things that are pleasing to him."

Hebrews 11:5-6 - By faith Enoch was taken up so that he should not see death, and he was not found, because God had taken him. Now before he was taken he was commended as having pleased God. And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.

Dear God, I want to please You in everything I do even as I write my letter to Tom offering forgiveness and an open door to reconciliation and restoration. I want to concentrate on pleasing You more than pleasing others even if pleasing You might take me down an unpopular path in life. Thank You, God. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

My Precious Promises

Genesis 28:15 - "Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land. For I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you."

Romans 8:38-39 - For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Philippians 4:12 - I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need.

Philippians 4:12 (ICB) - I have learned the secret of being happy at any time in everything that happens.

Philippians 4:19 - And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

Dear God, You are with me everywhere I go. You will meet my needs according to Your riches. Nothing can separate me from Your love. You have chosen me. You have allowed me to experience autism firsthand. And no matter how hard people want to disapprove of me because I do not fit into their "perfect" little mold of what they think I should be like, You still love me for who I am, perfect in Your image and sight and mind. You will make sure my family is taken care of financially so that we can pay the bills and food and medicine and doctors and insurance and house and cars. You will even restore friendship with Tom even if it looks different in the beginning of the restoration. You will help me find a new church that will accept me for who I am, autism and all, and will not be mean bullies and try to change who You created me to be just because I am brutally honest to a fault. Will you protect me from the wrong path that people just thrust America onto last night? The republicans are gunning to throw me off a cliff just because I am disabled. Thank You, God. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

Challenges Are Actually Chances

Exodus 33:14 - And he said, "My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest."

Deuteronomy 33:25 - "Your bars shall be iron and bronze, and as your days, so shall your strength be."

Psalm 29:11 - May the Lord give strength to his people! May the Lord bless his people with peace!

Psalm 29:11 (NLT) - The Lord gives his people strength. The Lord blesses them with peace.

Hebrews 13:20-21 - Now may the God of peace who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant, equip you with everything good that you may do his will, working in us that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.

Dear God, the biggest challenge for me today has to be the elections. Help me remember to choose the candidate who will hold the best interest of the least of these in the forefront and not continue to deny healthcare to them or continue to try to take it away from them. Help me to reflect on those points about what Your sheep would do and how to treat the least of these as I would treat Jesus. Help me also as I ponder more about what Brittany Maynard decided with regard to life and death decisions and to keep sharing the TRUE Gospel message with others about Your grace and Your love. And lastly, please lead us to the mouse that might actually be a kangaroo before it drives us completely insane! Thank You. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

Count It as Garbage

Philippians 3:7-11 - But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith–that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead.

Philippians 3:8 (CEV) - Nothing is as wonderful as knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. I have given up everything else and count it all as garbage. All I want is Christ.

Colossians 4:2 - Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving.

Dear God, it is hard to think of disappointments as garbage compared to knowing You. Some of those disappointments are huge. Help me to seek You out in the disappointments though and to let You turn them into positives. Thank You. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

That Helpless Feeling

Psalm 116:5-7 - Gracious is the Lord, and righteous; our God is merciful. The Lord preserves the simple; when I was brought low, he saved me. Return, O my soul, to your rest; for the Lord has dealt bountifully with you.

Psalm 116:5-7 (CEV) - You are kind,  lord, so good and merciful. You protect ordinary people, and when I was helpless, you saved me and treated me so kindly that I don't need to worry anymore.

Isaiah 30:15-16 - For thus said the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel, "In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and in trust shall be your strength." But you were unwilling, and you said, "No! We will flee upon horses"; therefore you shall flee away; and, "We will ride upon swift steeds"; therefore your pursuers shall be swift.

Ephesians 5:20 - ...giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,...

Dear God, I am helpless at times, and I do need Your help. The world should be ashamed for making people feel ashamed when they need help. They should be ashamed for demonizing people who need help. Let us remember going into elections that You favor the poor and the weak and the sick over the healthy and rich and strong. After all, You sent Your Son, not for the rich and the strong and the healthy, but for the poor and the weak and the sick. Thank You for helping me in my need. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

Cheering You On

Romans 8:33-34 - Who shall bring any charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies. Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died–more than that, who was raised–who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.

Hebrews 4:14-16 - Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Dear God, help me to always treasure the victories of when I can block out distractions while spending time with You. It gets easier over time, but it is still a great challenge. Thank You. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

While You Listen

Exodus 3:5 - Then he said, "Do not come near; take your sandals off your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground."

John 7:38-39 - "Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, 'Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.'" Now this he said about the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were to receive, for as yet the Spirit had not been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.

I Corinthians 6:19-20 - Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.

Dear God, help me to listen to You while listening to others so that I can share Your love, joy, and peace with them. Thank You for teaching me how to be a better friend to others. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

The Bells of Heaven

Jeremiah 29:12-14 - Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek and find me. When you seek me with all your heart, I will be found by you, declares the Lord, and I will restore your fortunes and gather you from all the nations and all the places where I have driven you, declares the Lord, and I will bring you back to the place from which I sent you into exile.

John 10:14, 27-28 - "I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me. ... My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand."

Dear God, help me learn to be more still so I can always hear that You are with me. Thank You for teaching me how to rest and be in Your presence. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

I Love Christmas, But Not This Early

Christmas is not here yet, but the stores have yet again concocted HallowThanksMas. Let me explain. There are two times of year when holidays get jumbled by commercialism. The first is Valentine's Day/St. Patrick's Day/Easter. I still have not forgotten the green stuffed Easter bunny around Valentine's one year. The second is now dubbed HallowThanksMas which is when you see Christmas stuff for sale or on display or hear Christmas music before Halloween. I have a rule. I never listen to Christmas music until after November 15. This satisfies both my birthday and Veteran's Day which is now a seemingly lost holiday as many places are now open. And it still gets me in the mood for handling Black Friday or Black Thanksgiving sales if I need to go to any. I keep praying for the year I don't need to go to any. But I have a snow globe tradition with JCPenney, so no. I love Halloween. An excuse to wear a costume that my mom usually makes or remakes. Why not? And who says Christians cannot celebrate? Use it wisely though. Anyway, the history makes it less offensive than it really sounds. Boy, I do miss that show So Weird! I like Thanksgiving. One turkey and so many meals. Freeze it to make it last. As family has dwindled in size, it has become less nice though. And I LOVE Christmas, though one of its origins is not necessarily so great. Ah, Christmas. But seriously, when stores and radio stations start Christmas before Halloween, I have an issue. On one side of the aisle you find Halloween decorations and on the other side Christmas. Hey, wait, there is a holiday between them, right? Right? Right! At least spare me the sights and sounds of Christmas until after the official tree lighting ceremony. It used to be the Macy's Thanksgiving parade ushered in Christmas. Not any more. And I am now thoroughly pooped out on Christmas before it even gets here. Welcome HallowThanksMas now please go away so we can have out separate holidays again!

Stay with Me

Ephesians 2:10 - For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

Hebrews 12:3 - Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted.

Dear God, prepare me for the day ahead. And thank You for creating me just the way. You wanted and needed me to be, autism and all. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

That's Not Fair

Isaiah 61:10 - I will greatly rejoice in the Lord; my soul shall exult in my God, for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation; he has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself like a priest with a beautiful headdress, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.

Romans 5:3-5 - More than that, we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

Ephesians 1:7-10 - In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ, as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and on earth.

Colossians 3:12-13 - Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you must also forgive.

Colossians 3:13 (ICB) - If someone does wrong to you, then forgive him. Forgive each other because The Lord forgave you.

Dear God, no, God, life is not fair and it is not fair that the disabled people suffer so many injustices in this world. No, God, it is not fair that Tom who knew what was happening was wrong but did nothing. No, it is not fair that he hurt me. But God, you say that he and I need to forgive each other just as you have forgiven each of us if he is a Christian. So help me God. Help me to reach out in trust in writing. I have been afraid to do that. Not through an e-mail. Not through a text message. Not through a phone call. But through a letter. And help him to respond. Thank You God for being more than fair to me with Your grace and love and mercy and peace. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

Running the Candidates Through the Litmus Test-Who Has the Best Interest of the Least of These in Mind?

In my area, the two most contested races are Congressional District 6 with Gary Palmer and Mark Lester. The next is the gubernatorial race between Robert Bentley and Parker Griffith.

Robert Bentley has failed every aspect with regard to the least of these in Alabama. And Gary Palmer has already been out through the test and failed every aspect as well.

But I will break it down.

Matthew 25:31-46 - "When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. And he will place the sheep on his right, but the goats on the left. Then the King will say to those on the right, 'Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.' Then the righteous will answer him, saying, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you! And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?' And the King will answer them, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one if the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.'
"Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.' Then they also will answer, saying, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to you?' Then he will answer them, saying, 'Truly, I say to you, as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.' And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."

The least of these. When you treat the least of these well, you treat Jesus well. When you hurt the least of these, you hurt Jesus.

So here is the breakdown. Robert Bentley has avowed that he will refuse to expand Medicaid. And let me set something straight. People on Medicaid are not lazy. Medicaid, as established, is supposed to help the poor and the disabled. In Alabama, Medicaid has an assets test of $2000 maximum. Most of the poor and the disabled tend to have just over $2000. When the Affordable Care Act was passed, it gave states the opportunity to expand the Medicaid program. But Bentley let his hatred of President Obama get in the way. Bentley said healthcare was something that only his Christian brothers deserve. And the thing is, he is wrong. Many of the poor and the disabled are Christians but they still have no access to healthcare because they can neither get private insurance because their income is less than $11,000 and they do not qualify for assistance, but neither can they get Medicaid because of the assets test being one of the worst on the country. If Bentley had expanded Medicaid, just about every single person in Alabama would have access to healthcare. Bentley will continue to refuse access tohealthcare  for the least of these in Alabama as long as he remains in the governor position. Take a look at The Birmingham News from this past Sunday. A nice lengthy article about the disabled on the waiting list. These are the ones who have been blessed enough to actually be out on the Medicaid rolls. However, they are waiting for services because of an outdated and lengthy waiting list which even those who need the help still cannot get on. The state of Alabama will not improve in this regard as long as Bentley is governor. To make Medicaid work, and work well, it has to be expanded. The disabled need the expansion. Also, many of the poor do work. The ones who don't work are often the disabled.

Parker Griffith has affirmed that he will not only expand Medicaid but reform Medicaid. And I support his position. For a disabled adult who is able to be placed on Medicaid in Alabama, it serves as nothing more than a supplement to private insurance. The coverage is worse than bare bones. It is almost non-existent. Neither private insurance nor Medicaid covers hearing aids for adults. And with the current assets test of $2000, affording hearing aids when state agencies, like Voc Rehab will not even help due to lack of complete understanding of how the hearing loss affects a particular person, is impossible since a good pair, but not necessarily the best pair, costs $3000.

That is where the ABLE Act waiting for Senate passage in November comes in. The ABLE Act will allow families of the disabled individual to save up to $100,000 in a special 529 type of account tax-free without benefits being lost. This means that a disabled adult who is able to work more than just part time will not lose their benefits. Most of the disabled cannot afford to work right now due to the fact that they need the benefits more than they need the job. And the reason for that is because of the gaps in coverage through insurance companies and Medicaid.

As you can see, the problem is circular.

Now compare Gary Palmer and Mark Lester. Gary Palmer has avowed to not only repeal the ACA, but to fight against the president. Why run if you are just going to fight the president? Consider this thought: In a sense, the president is the boss. A senator or a congressman has said they are going to fight him. Essentially, they are planning to fight the boss. Now, if I go to a job interview saying I am going to fight the boss, I am most likely not going to get the job, right? So why should we allow senators and congressmen to be hired if all they are going to do is fight the boss, the president?

One other problem. Many of these republican candidates tout their Christianity. Yet, they want to destroy programs set aside to help the least of these? Bounce back to what Jesus said in that passage in Matthew. Now think about what I just stated. If we know them by their fruit, and if the republicans claiming to be Christians are willing to destroy programs set aside to help the least of these even though Jesus made it perfectly clear that what they do to the least of these is what they do to Him, do you honestly think that they are truly Christians? I have to question that one big time. To me, this is like a church that abuses and bullies someone for having autism, and having been there, I can tell you that it not only hurts to experience that, but it is unforgivable and it tarnishes one's mindset of what church should be: a SAFE place full of love and grace and mercy and acceptance no matter what the person's walk of life might be, a SAFE place that comes along side of the person through their most difficult of challenges and never discriminates against someone, a Jesus-filled SAFE place. Yet, too many churches have failed people like me. They have failed. Period. This is why churches cannot be expected nor trusted to help the least of these. Not by themselves anyway. The government has established programs to help the least of these for a reason. Programs like SSI, SSDI, VA, SNAP, TANF, etc. Look into the history books of the Bible if you would. There are a lot of passages where kings would have the people who were able to do so go out and harvest the crops before a drought. Then when the drought came, the kings would have designated people who made sure every citizen's family had just enough food to eat for the day. That's right, the government made sure their citizens were cared for and provided for. There are many passages where God says that the rich should be kind to the poor and that the love of money is the root of all evil. Yet the republicans today would prefer to give tax breaks to the wealthiest corporations while taxing the poor through the nose and denying them the help they need.

Picture this: The republicans in many states have been trying to make the poor pee in cups before they can get help they need for their families. But the courts have said this is illegal and a violation of privacy. Also, did you know pre-employment drug tests are actually illegal? I found that out after one store discriminated against me because I was on prescription ADHD medication at the time. I provided a copy of the prescription and all the information needed to prove it yet I was still discriminated against. I am no longer on the ADHD medication because of it. Also, the argument, well, I have to take tests when I am employed, fails. Why? Because you are employed. Also, you should question what kind of behavior your employer thought warranted the test. And unless you are in a position where public safety or heavy machinery is a factor, you should not need to drug test. But picture this: At the feeding of the thousands where a little boy sacrificed his picnic lunch so Jesus could feed them, imagine if you would each person coming to Jesus for their share and Jesus holding out a cup and saying, "You can eat after you pee in this cup." I can't imagine it because He would not ever do that because He never did. Jesus never made those kind of contingencies.

Jesus was not the one who said that a man shall not eat if he will not work. It was a disciple that said it. And it was not a reference to the disabled or the elderly or children although many people do not understand that these are the people on SNAP. Also, many of the people on SNAP do work. And nowhere does the Bible say anything about teaching a man to fish, though it is a nice proverb that some man after the Bible said.

Minimum wages. Did you know our current minimum wage level is now below poverty level? In Shelby County, Alabama, it would take $14 per hour to not be below poverty. And yes, the law established minimum wage to be a living wage. If cost of living expenses were truly attached to minimum wage, then why has the cost of everything gone up despite the stagnation of the minimum wage? Well, they should go get an education! Many minimum wage jobs are filled by people with college degrees and years of experience. Even in government sector jobs. Well, then they should look for work elsewhere! Because there is such an abundance of jobs? Stop arguing the point of reality. Stop watching Fox News which admits to lying claiming there is not a law. (There is a code of ethics for journalism though.)

Hobby Lobby. Suddenly a corporation is a person that can think, feel, breathe, eat, poop, sleep. Hmmm. The First Amendment is about people. Not corporations. But if Hobby Lobby has its way, no woman will be able to get any healthcare. Plan B says right on the box that it is a three day dose of standard birth control and that it does not cause abortion. Plan B is OTC and most insurances don't cover OTC. Hobby Lobby does not exclusively sell Christian merchandise nor does it indicate religion in its name. Hobby Lobby has infringed on the rights of women to have independent decisions about their healthcare. And what I think needs to happen now is that employer based coverage be eradicated. Completely.

Also, faulty logic going on. A pastor once said that maybe the reason the woman chose an abortion was because it was a choice of being able to feed her existing children or losing one of those children to starvation for having the baby. Afterward, I did some research to see if that kind of thing could happen and was appalled when I discovered that his birth state actually had a law in place that said unless a woman could prove that the pregnancy was due to rape, that she had a choice: She could carry the baby to term but doing so would mean that her SNAP benefits would be cut. Or she could abort. So therein lies the problem.

Pro-life. For life. All life. At all stages of life. Republicans would rather that women carry and birth babies they cannot afford or they do not want but do not want to actually take care of the babies once they arrive. That is not pro-life. That is pro-birth.

My stance:

1. I do not like abortion. But I will not judge the woman who chooses abortion. It is not my place to judge anyway.
2. Yes, I do believe that homosexuality, along with adultery, along with pre-marital sex, are all sins. I will not condone them. But neither will I judge someone because it is not my place to judge.
3. Yes, I believe Medicaid should be expanded. Matthew 25:31-46 sort of supports this stance.
4. No, I do not believe that the poor should be drug tested before receiving help. This has failed in other states already nor does Jesus purport that kind of thing.
5. Yes, I believe minimum wage should be slowly raised. Initially to the $10.10 proposed which is still below poverty but not so below poverty that people would need as much as help as they do now.
6. No, I do not believe all the poor are just lazy. That was a horrid lie from Romney, who is not a Christian no matter how much people want to delude themselves into thinking that Mormons are Christians, and yes, I have researched this point as well.
7. No, I do not believe that President Obama has anything to do with the end times. Matter of fact, I do not believe America has anything to do with the end times because America simply did not exist when those prophecies were written about.
8. Yes, I believe churches should do more to help than they already do. They need to be more intentional about reaching out to those in their communities at home and targeting those who have special needs and their families. But, I also feel the government should do more as well.
9. Yes, I believe the second amendment has been taken out of context. "A well-regulated militia" is not the general public and "arms" did not mean high powered shoot with six bullets at once guns like we have now.
10. I am a Christian and these thoughts have been shaped through experiences. I took a quiz just for fun that indicated that I am 60% democrat and 40% republican. The thing was, a lot of the questions were about social issues. And if that makes me a liberal or a socialist, then I am very proud because I have based many of my positions on the words that Jesus spoke in Matthew 25.

I have never forgotten that sermon about the least of these. And I have never forgotten that the pastor said that any Christian who held the same attitude that Romney expressed about the least of these needed to repent. That sermon inspired me to utilize Matthew 25 as a sort of litmus test and a prayer guide when approaching any and all elections. And then I add simply, "Lord, may Your will be done in light of this passage."

Story: After the presidential elections in 2012, I had a nightmare. Romney had won and I lost my insurance. Then my mom, a DAV, and I lost our home. I woke with a start and prayed, "Lord, you know my heart and You know my needs. Let Your will be done." The next morning, it was with great relief when I learned that Obama had won the election. I now have better insurance as a result. Stubborn doctors who seem too afraid to actually act in my benefit and move toward life-saving IVIG infusions that could help me get well enough to work and live and thrive, but better insurance nontheless. I will repeat the same prayer this year as well. For me. For others like me. And the thing is, God's will will be done. It sickens me when I see people praying so specifically and then claiming that God is not answering prayers. That they pray everyday for Obama to be impeached but it never happens. Well, maybe consider that you are asking God to do something that is not His will. Stop praying for Obama to be impeached and stop praying so specifically. Simply pray, "Lord, let Your will be done."

I get hurt when someone says, pray for this person that they no longer have cancer. Or pray for this person that they no longer have depression or autism or whatever. Why? Because when I was still a teenager a friend of mine had a son with a brain tumor that just would not truly go away. And for some time after he passed, I questioned everything about God. Why did God not heal him? That is what everyone prayed for. Only now when I reflect back, I see that God did heal him. God gave him ultimate healing. It was not the healing we wanted, but it was healing. Robin Williams may or may not have been a Christian, and suicide is not the unforgivable sin and Christians do commit suicide just as much as any other people do, but God did heal him of his depression. Not in the manner we would have preferred, but healed him nonetheless. And please, stop praying for autism to go away. It is not a disease that needs a cure or that kills. Matter of fact, God Himself may have autistic traits.

Lord, we have elections next week. And You know the needs of the people more than even we do ourselves. Let Your will be done.

It All Starts with Me

Genesis 1:1 - In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.

Psalm 32:8 - I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you.

Dear God, thank You for Your guidance on the path in life. Thank You for allowing me to see fresh, new things along the way. Help me to never sleepwalk through life missing all the fresh, new things You have in store for me. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

Let Me Be Your Everything

John 15:5 - "I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing."

Philippians 4:19 - And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

James 1:4 - And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

Dear God, thank You for being all that I truly need. I cannot go it alone. I cannot do it alone. I need You. Thank You. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

Who I Am

Matthew 1:21 - She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he save his people from their sins."

Matthew 1:23 - "Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and they shall call his name Immanuel."

Acts 2:28 - You have made known to me the paths of life; you will make me full of gladness with your presence."

Dear God, the Lord saves, God with us. The Lord saves, God with me. The Lord saves. God is with me. The Lord saves because God is with me. God is with me because the Lord saves. Thank You, God, for being Who You are. In Jesus' Name, Amen!

Wired

Genesis 2:2-3 - And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done. So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it God rested from all his work that he had done in creation.

Psalm 23:1-3 - The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

Luke 1:76-79 - "And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High; for you will go before the Lord to prepare his ways, to give knowledge of salvation to his people in the forgiveness of their sins, because if the tender mercy of our God, whereby the sunrise shall visit us from on high to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace."

Dear God, I need rest. Not just spiritually but also physically. I no longer get restful sleep. Please give me rest. Thank You. In Jesus's Name, Amen!
